A large part of effective service
delivery within our Meals on Wheels programs is advocacy. As we enter the 2012
legislative session, your voice and the voice of seniors in your community is
more important than ever.
Mark your calendars.
Upcoming are two big ways to take
your advocacy efforts to a higher level.

Be There 4 Seniors Campaign
Advocacy materials are available
through the Georgia Council on Aging by contacting Kathryn Fowler at kdfowler@dhr.state.ga.us or Abby Cox
at agcox@dhr.state.ga.us . The
materials enable each person to understand the issues and to talk with or write
their legislators. Constituents are the ones they want to hear from.
- Send e-mails and letters
- Schedule visits where you live in their home district
- Call them; and
- Talk to others and get them engaged in doing the same
A major message which Be
There 4 Seniors wants to communicate is “No More Cuts!” and for
powerful reasons. With the additional 2% cut in state funds requested by
Governor Deal in August, 2011, Georgia Aging Services State Funding is now at
Maintenance of Effort for Older Americans Act programs. These cuts jeopardize
vital federal funding for core aging programs.
